NERRRRRRRD!!

Thank you, Dr. Seuss, for introducing the NERD to civilization. Scientists, technologists, mathematicians, and comic book fans haven't been the same since.

Yes, that's right. Dr. Seuss invented nerds. Go look it up, and check out a copy of the book, If I Ran the Zoo (1950). Seuss was a genius, I tell ya. A GENIUS.

He sure looks cranky. Perhaps his favorite comic book character just had his origin retconned for the fifteenth time?

Such are the things that anger the NERD.

Of course Dr. Seuss was a genius... and doubtless, he was a Nerd as well :-)

Gosh, I grew up on Dr. Suess. Do kids still read Dr. Suess? For some reason I like the Ooblick one, with Bartholomew Cubbins. Don't ask me why.

But yes...that's definitely a nerd. Face all hair, and blanked-out stare...wait that's a different poem.

Is it an abbreviation of 'Ne'er-do-well'?
Cause that's what I've been telling people...

I honestly don't know, TF -- that's never occurred to me! I wouldn't be surprised if you're right.
